Schools
Project days, competitions and school life
Local history is the strongest school project you can set. The pupil finds out something that is not in the textbook, and does it about the place where they live.
The project day ends with a poster
The work is done and nobody sees the result. The school has something to say, yet no form in which it would stand up next to what the pupils watch at home.
Ideas
What you can film
The story of my town
The pupils find a local event or legend and work it up. The source has to be cited — that is the whole point.
The school mascot
A character that stays with the school for years and appears in announcements, at open days and in prevention work.
The video club
For secondary schools: script, character, editing and publishing as a skill, not as entertainment.
The Find the Mistake competition
A competition between classes that joins media literacy to making things.
How it works
What to watch out for
- Pupils work under a teacher's supervision and in the school's account.
- Pupils' likenesses are not used. The characters are invented — which is also the simplest way to protect personal data in a school.
- Citing the source is part of the brief. Without it, it is invention, not a project.
