Literature and reading
The risk is obvious and it shapes the whole approach: a video that retells the plot is a reason not to open the book.
A plot summary is exactly what must not happen
So none of these formats retells the plot. They all work with what is NOT written down directly — with motivation, with the setting, with the alternative.
Ideas
What you can film
Why did he do it?
A character's motivation as a question the text does not answer directly. The pupil has to find the answer.
What it looked like
The world of the book — the setting, the period, the detail. No plot.
How else it could have ended
An alternative ending as a prompt for a discussion about why the author chose the original one.
The book introduces itself
A short hook for school libraries — the atmosphere without spoilers.
How it works
What to watch out for
- A reading journal can be handed in as a short video about one character. It makes the pupil read the book more closely, not less.
- The video never replaces the text. Anyone using it as a summary achieves the exact opposite of the point.
