Science, mathematics and technology
In physics, chemistry and biology the biggest obstacle is scale. Most of what is being explained cannot be seen.
A static diagram does not show a process
A picture of a cell in a textbook shows parts, not processes. An equation shows the result, not how it unfolds. The experiment that would show it is either too long, too expensive, or not allowed in a classroom.
Ideas
What you can film
From the inside
The process at the scale where it actually happens — the cell, the reaction, the flow.
Sped up and slowed down
Processes that take years, or a thousandth of a second.
The experiment you are not allowed to do
A demonstration of a reaction where the safety rule comes before clarity.
Where it comes from
The journey of water, energy or a raw material through a whole system — geography and technology at once.
How it works
What to watch out for
- Simplification has to be acknowledged. A model is not a photograph of the phenomenon, and the pupil should know that.
- The teacher judges the scientific accuracy. That is also the reason the content is made in the school and not outside it.
